Spam and Spam Blocking
Spam is essentially junk email, advertising products and services not requested by the recipient. A Spamer is a person who sends spam, mostly sending out emails in bulk to tens of thousands of prospective customers. Disadvantages of spam are :
- Annoyance of receiving unsolicited emails
- Spam consumes valuable resources on mail servers and other equipment in the process while processing unwanted bulk emails costing thousands, and sometimes millions.
- Reduced productivity as one has to go through spam mails and delete them after identifying.
How Spamers collect email address
- E-mail harvesters. An email harvester is a program that scans documents, usually web pages, looking for email addresses. When an email address is found, it is added to the database. Some email harvesters can view both the underlying code and the page as it's rendered by the browser.
